EAST TEXAS (KLTV) - We have a 7 On Your Side warning regarding the 2010 census.
Forms were just delivered Monday and already scam artists are doing their best to get your personal information. The Census Bureau reminds residents they do not conduct the census on online. They will not send you an e-mail about participating. They will never ask for your full social security number, money, or passwords for any financial accounts.
"The 2010 census questionnaire is only 10 questions," said Joy Brandon, with the Dallas Regional Census Center. "It is one of the shortest in history. So anyone wanting to avoid a knock on the door from the federal government, fill out the form and send it back. It is very safe, it is very easy, and it is very important."
If someone does show up at your door, the Census Bureau suggests you check for valid census identification badges and alert the regional office if you think you have been a victim of an in-person scam.
