Some East Texas kids do their part to fight smoking as part of a 2-day national tobacco awareness effort. The function was called "Texas Kids Kick Butts* day, and middle schoolers at Pine Tree took the time to adorn cars with messages against cigarette smoking. They joined thousands of kids nationwide in working to educate young people on the health and economic impact of tobacco products. For the kids involved, it's their way to possibly save lives in the future. Statistics show that 24 percent of high school students in Texas smoke.
