HENDERSON, TX (KLTV) - We are learning more about the suspicious devices popping up in post offices across East Texas.

U.S. Postal inspectors have joined forces with the ATF. They are now offering a $5,000 reward for any information on the devices said to resemble a molotov cocktail.

The liquid filled bottles have shown up in mail boxes near Kilgore, Henderson, and in a processing plant outside Tyler.

Authorities say they are combining resources to find the people or person responsible, but remain tight lipped as to how. Local ATF officials kept silent on the suspicious items, but postal inspection agents say they pose no immediate danger to the public.

Monday, Henderson authorities added to the current number of incendiary devices, when they discovered a bottle filled with an unknown liquid topped with a wick in a mailbox.

Federal authorities say they are awaiting possible surveillance video. Police say they are now increasing patrols around the post office.

Postal inspectors say all bottles have been recovered unlit, but say the items are causing a strain on first responders who should be available to handle real emergencies.

Immediate danger or not, destruction of federal property is a serious offense punishable by up to three years in prison per act, giving the East Texas prankster  some serious time behind bars

Federal authorities are asking anyone with information leading to the arrest of the individuals responsible to contact postal inspectors at 817-359-2719.
