Collecting crutches for Haiti

TYLER, TEXAS (KLTV) - Robert E. Lee High School student, Temple Mims, 16, said she was watching the news after the earthquake struck in Haiti.

She said a very simple idea popped into her head few moments later.

"I said, Mom, everyone has crutches...we can donate them," she said.

Temple is now partnering with Mercy Ships to collect at least 1,000 pairs of crutches to be sent to the island nation.

"I hope to just be able to impact somebody's life in a positive way...that's my goal," she said.

Temple hopes to collect her crutches in one month.

To donate your old, or new crutches, simply drop them off at one of the following locations:

Mercy Ships

Salvation Army of Tyler

The SSE Loop 323 Goodwill Store

Build-A-Bear Workshop, Broadway Square Mall, Tyler

Temple is also accepting donations to have the older crutches refurbished.
