CHEROKEE COUNTY (KLTV) - Fire ripped through a Cherokee County home, Saturday afternoon.

Smith and Cherokee county fire crews responded to a home in the 7300 block of Cherokee County Road 3906.

The initial call came in around 2 p.m.

The home was a total loss, but fortunately, the family--a husband and wife, their daughter, and two grandchildren--were away when it went up in flames.

Nancy Barron, the homeowner said she got a phone call from a neighbor.  On her way back to the home, she could see the smoke rising from the trees.

"You think about things that are in there that don't come to mind until, all of sudden, they're gone," she said.  "It's okay...just things, and things can be replaced," she said, almost in tears.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
