LONGVIEW, TX (KLTV) - He tried to jump start his truck, and then ended up being run over by it. Thursday morning, a 53-year-old man was injured when his truck started rolling at the Brookwood Village Shopping Center in Longview.

"All of the sudden we look up, and this truck is just taking off backwards, and this man is chasing it," said witness Becky Byrd.

"It started backing up, and when it started backing up I said, 'There's nobody in there,'" said Sheila Johnson.

It started when the man was finishing some shopping. What the man was trying to do was start his truck by using a screwdriver and connecting the solenoid and starter. The truck did start up, but it was left in reverse and got away from him.

"I just turned around, I heard him hollering, and I took off after his truck," said Terry Parker. "I was afraid it was going to hit somebody."

"I was thinking, 'Don't chase that down,'" said Byrd. "'Its going to hit you!'"

The truck started to speed away, as the man chased after, trying to stop it. That is when he got knocked down.

"The truck knocked the owner down and the truck kept going until it stopped across the road," explained Byrd.

The truck sped across the parking lot, crossed a street and hit a dumpster building, miraculously hitting nothing else along the way.

"It could have run over anybody or hit a car that was coming through," said Byrd.

"It was very scary, very scary," said Johnson. "It could have been much, much worse. It could have hit another car. It could have hit anything - people walking past."

For those who thought they had seen everything, this sight they won't soon forget.

The man suffered minor injuries, but we are told he is expected to recover.
