Man dies after being pinned beneath portable building

Released by the Palestine Police Department:

PALESTINE, TX - Thursday morning, just after 11 a.m., First Responders were called to the Palestine High School, located at 1600 S. Loop 256, in reference to an industrial accident.

Upon arrival, responders found a 26-year-old male, pinned beneath a portable building that was being prepared for removed from the school grounds.

Efforts to reach the male were only made possible by removing the floor from the portable building, however upon reaching the male, he was found to be already deceased. Judge Gary Thomas, Anderson County Justice of the Peace, Pct 1 responded to the scene, and ruled on the death. An autopsy has not been ordered at this time.

According to statements given by coworkers, the male was assisting in shoring the underside of the building, when a support snapped, and the structure collapsed upon him.

The removal project was assigned to TJ Construction, out of Troup, Texas.

The subject's information is not being released at this time, pending family notification.
