Storm chasing, Grant Dade style

TYLER, TX (KLTV) – Wednesday's round of severe storms produced an amazing amount of large hail across much of East Texas, especially north of I-20.  Yours truly was out and about chasing after these storms trying to relay information back to the National Weather Service and KLTV on what these storms were doing.  We intercepted four different storms, all with severe thunderstorm warnings.  Luckily enough, we were able to miss each hail core and maintain a visual on the storm structures.  After following these storms until sunset, we decided to head to higher elevation in hopes of capturing a brilliant lightning display.  At an elevation of over 700 feet, Love's Lookout north of Jacksonville provided the perfect opportunity.  I was able to put together a series of photos to produce a time lapse of the severe storms over Rusk, Cherokee, and Nacogdoches Counties. Click on the video to the right to check it out.

Thankfully most of East Texas was spared the damage from severe weather.  We are just entering what could be an active severe weather season thanks in part to El Nino.
