Young East Texas scientists compete for international spotlight

Kilgore College will hosted the 47th annual East Texas Regional Science Fair Friday, March 5, in the Devall Student Center Ballroom on the Kilgore campus.

Local fair winners from area schools (grades 5-12) were invited to attend the competition. The top individual project from the "Senior Division" (grades 9-12) and their sponsor were awarded a trip to the 2010 Intel International Science and Engineering Fair in San Jose, Calif., May 9-14.

In addition, the top finisher in each of four categories qualifies to attend the Exxon-Mobil Science and Engineering Fair in San Antonio, April 9-12.

Specialty awards were given for projects in water, engineering, use of computers and environmental science.

The U.S. Army, Navy and Air Force also awarded prizes.
