Community Spotlight – Meals on Wheels

Nothing but food and a smile can fill the void left by hunger and loneliness.  For thousands of east Texans these voids would be daily realities if it were not for Meals on Wheels.  Meals on Wheels of East Texas depends on volunteers to deliver meals across a 6 county area including Smith, Gregg, Henderson, Upshur, Van Zandt and Wood.  In fact, they deliver thirty-five hundred meals a day in the area typically to homebound senior citizens and disabled persons.  Last year they served more than 1 million meals right here in east Texas.  For many of these recipients, the food from Meals on Wheels will be the only meal they have that day.  Meals on Wheels of East Texas started in 1973 and served 14 people a day so it is obvious that the need has grown tremendously and they need your help.  Because of their nearly 40 year record of service to those who cannot help themselves, we have selected Meals on Wheels of East Texas as KLTV's Community Spotlight for March.  You can learn more about how to volunteer for this organization by going to KLTV dot com and clicking the Community tab.  In spite of their success, they need your help in the form of time and money.  If you can volunteer, you can be a part of providing food and fellowship right here in our area.  Meals on Wheels of East Texas, KLTV's Community Spotlight for March, filling a huge need and making this a Better East Texas.
