MINEOLA, TX (KLTV) - We are continuing to learn more about the Extreme Makeover Carr family. Katrina Carr, the mother, is proud to be an East Texas girl - originally from Carthage.
Katrina Carr's life revolves around her family. With a master's in education, she home schools Nicolas, Haydn, Ryanne, and Rina, running them back and forth to doctor's appointments.
"I've had it on my heart since I was just a little person that people with special needs need a fair shake," she said. You know, Mike and I went back to Lion's Camp summer after summer because we love it. We love the kids and they bless us in ways that I can't really express. It's a gift and to actually be able to raise four of these little people and to be chosen to be their mother, it's an honor."
Katrina and Mike give their children all the love they have. But, since Mike was laid-off in the summer, it has been a struggle, financially, to provide for them. She never would have thought an ABC TV show would be their answer to prayer.
"It's an unbelievable blessing," she said. "It really is. Just to be able to take care of these kids in the way they need to be cared for and for Mike to have a place where we don't have to worry every day what's going to happen to him. We're going to sleep at night again, which will be nice."
Who knows? With the new 4800 square foot home, their family could grow.
"Plans for more? My husband will say no that we're good, but you know, at our house there's always room for one more...I feel that way in my heart," she said. "I think that if the Lord says [adopt] this child, neither one of us would hesitate."
And for this gift, she will always be grateful.
"We thank each of you for everything that you're doing for my family," she said. "We love you, every one of you."
