LONGVIEW, TX (KLTV) - An East Texas fourth grader is facing robbery charges after allegedly bringing a BB gun to class.

"It scared her (my child)," Destiny Finley said. "[If] a gun is put to me, I'm going to be scared, BB gun whatever, I'm going to be scared."

"Don't point a gun at me and I'm grown so I know my 10-year-old didn't want to see that BB gun pointed at her," one mother said.

Brandy Finley and her mother are outraged that a 11-year-old was able to pull out a BB gun on her daughter.

"She said, 'Grandmother, the boy put the gun to my chest,' and she said, 'I was scared,'" Noreen Jackson, Destiny's grandmother said.  "I said, 'What are you talking about?'"

The student brought a unloaded BB gun to school but he didn't just show it off.  Police say he pointed it one student and demanded their money.

"What does my daughter Destiny, a 10-year-old know about a real gun and a play gun?" Destiny's mother said. "All she knew was that her life stood before her then."

"They did take the kids out of the classroom away from this individual," said Brian Bowman of LISD. "The gun was taken up by the principal."

Officials say they take the matter seriously and the student faces disciplinary action.  But, parents wish they could have been alerted as soon as the incident happened.

"Why didn't we get the choice to take my baby from school?" Brandy said. "Why you didn't call me and tell me this happened to my child so she can come home because my baby didn't want to got to school Monday?"

"They tried to call every student's parent that was involved in this classroom. I was told that they where not able to get a hold of all of the parents immediately and even throughout the day," Bowman responded.

Longview ISD doesn't have a policy on a teacher contacting a parent but they plan on having better communication with parents.

"We want the parents to be aware of it whether it's a good situation or a bad situation," Bowman said.

The 11-year-old was arrested on robbery charges and taken to Gregg County Juvenile Detention Center.
