MINEOLA, TX (KLTV) - Each member of the Carr family is unique and special in their own way. Nicolas, the oldest of the Carr children, says he could not wait to surf while on vacation.
Nicolas is adventurous, and he shares his adventures with his little brothers and sisters. "Hayden, we like to play with the action figures and Ryanne, we run together, and Rina, we pretend," said Nicolas.
At age nine, his mom, Katrina, says he is the protector of the family. She said, "He wants to make sure everybody is taken care of in our house. The storm blows through and he is making sure everybody is in the halls, the doors are locked, everybody's safe."
Nicolas, Hayden, Ryanne, and Rina were all adopted from Kazakhstan. They're all from different families but are bound together by the love of their adopted parents. "Now, they are, of course, all related," said Mike Carr. "You would never know the difference. To them they are brothers and sisters, always have been, always will be."
A family full of special needs, Nicolas was recently diagnosed with Sensory Integration Disorder. This affects his behavior and ability to concentrate. Something that holds his attention is space. "I like Star Wars...I've seen every one of them," said Nicolas. Another show he's a fan of is Extreme Makeover Home Edition. "We watch it almost every single Sunday night. I didn't believe they were here." While they're in shock, it's a family worthy of the help from their community. Especially Nicolas, the leader of the pack. "He's my champion," said Katrina.
