The following story was submitted to me by Dan Pearson whose concrete crews were at the Extreme Makeover home early Saturday morning. I loved what he had to say and wanted to share it with East Texans. Feel free to submit stories, pictures and video to me about your Extreme experience. Would love to hear them!

"A Solid Foundation"

After all of the Carr family's belongings were moved out and the demolition was complete, crews worked tirelessly preparing the site so that Chuck Schmidt Construction could lay the foundation for their "new" life in a Bayless Custom Home.

Truckloads of concrete were delivered in mixers donated by the local Transit Mix Concrete and Materials plant in order to finish the slab, driveway and walks for their new home.  To some, loading concrete mixer trucks with rock, sand and water to take to the job may seem routine, but to Transit Mix delivery driver and local resident, Kevin Wilson, the opportunity to help means much more.  "I was planning to volunteer on my own, but ended up being able to be part of this through my company's involvement.  This is a good deal."

And it takes a lot more than concrete to provide the right underpinning for a project like this.  It's the scores of volunteers and the commitment of suppliers and vendors from all over to come together and provide the services and goods that make this a community success.  Transit Mix delivery driver Ed Williams adds, "It is nice to see how the community comes together to help someone in need like this."
