Area Fishermen Drop Lines To Prevent Blindness

Some East Texans were out on the lake Saturday, tossing their fishing lines for charity.

The second annual Eye Care Associates "Fish Or Go Blind" tournament was held at Lake Tyler Marina. Although the fishermen certainly didn't need a reason to hit the lake, their hobby went for a good cause.

The money raised through the tournament goes to the East Texas branch of Prevent Blindness, so today even the teams that didn't catch anything came away winners.

"It's a win-win situation," says event chairman Dr. Bryan Frazier. "There's actually prize money and door prizes, and we've had an excellent amount of sponsors. The East Texas community and Tyler are wonderful at providing sponsorships."

In all, the event raised over twenty thousand dollars for Prevent Blindness. That money will go to provide vision screenings in East Texas.
