MINEOLA, TX (KLTV) - The Carr family home was set to be demolished on Friday afternoon. So everything inside had to be packed up after they left on Thursday night. And that's the job of more than 100 volunteers.
"We're packing up dishes, packing up books," said volunteer Lissette Martinez from Tyler. "I was told that I'm a taping machine."
There are teams from all over East Texas. There's even a team from the Tyler Junior College football team.
"We played basketball with the family earlier before the left," said TJC team member Stephen Alfred. "You know, I've got a daughter, and it's an inspiration, it's a blessing really."
But volunteers can't do it alone. They need some experts.
This is the 87th Extreme Makeover episode for the Certified Restoration Dry Cleaning Network. They'll take every article of clothing and bedding to Dallas to clean it before the Carr's come home.
"It's a ton of pride, to be honest with you," said James Conatser of CRDN. "If you look around, we've taken stuffed animals, and personal things that are dear to the children. When they come in, they'll be excited to be home from Hawaii, and step into this beautiful house. But then they'll see their favorite stuffed animal, or favorite backpack, and be more comfortable in their new home."
James's team has to go from room to room, so they don't mix Mom and Dad's stuff with the kids' stuff.
Ed Hall, who's in charge of the moving truck, isn't worried about mixing. His job is to put everything else in the house in a truck, then into storage. He says he understands growing up under tough circumstances, and can't wait to see the work pay off on TV.
"My kids are going to love it," Hall said. "I have five children at the house, and we do everything together, so we'll probably watch it together."
Several boxes of the family's belongings were set aside. Those boxes are full of items that are special to the family, many of which will be used in the re-design of the home.
