Chapel Hill's power cheer

TYLER, TEXAS (KLTV) -   Chapel Hill senior Lakaydria Cross won't leave the gym without the perfect cheer.  When practice is over, Cross's day is just getting started.  This cheerleader has more power.

"Especially when you see a girl that's stronger than most of the people on the football team," said Chapel Hill powerlifter Keandre Goss.  "She out lifts some of the offensive lineman."

Weighing in at 148 pounds, Cross has become quite the powerlifter.

"My sophomore year, the power coach saw me cheering as was like, I want you to come lift with me," said Cross.  "I didn't know about it because I was a cheerleader. I'm not that strong."

Cross proved herself wrong.  In the last two years she's improved her combined lifting weight to 705 pounds (That's a combination of the deadlift, the squat and the bench press). That's 200 more pounds then when she started.

"I'm like man it's crazy for you to be a girl and lift like that," said Goss, who's headed to state on the boys side.  "She (Cross) really loves it too, so that helps her when she gets her drive to lift."

The girl that once cheated in weights class, would rather hit the weight room, than cheer.

"Powerlifting has made me stronger and more open to things," said Cross.  "It's a strength I never knew I had."

Strength and confidence.

"Nobody's going to mess with me,' she said with a laugh.  "I even have boys run away from me in the hallway. I feel bad but it's okay."

"I think she normally doesn't have a boyfriend because she might be stronger," said Goss.

For now Cross's love is in the weight room where she's ready for regional's.  She needs to improve her combined weight by 30 pounds to qualify for state.

One search on twitter of the hashtag "bEASTtexas", and you will be scrolling for days. The amount of talent that comes from this region is mind blowing. It is even crazier to see around 10 Major League and minor league baseball guys working out together in one room.
