TYLER, TX (KLTV) - The big job of making dreams come true doesn't come without a big checklist. Just days away from choosing an East Texas family, Extreme Makeover: Home Edition staff is rushing to get donated build materials located.

Producers and contractors say even TV magic is not immune to tough economic times.

They make it look so easy on TV. Hundreds of volunteers and skilled craftsman make building a home in one week a reality, but recession times have thousands of dollars worth of once donated materials and goods now being used by businesses that are struggling for profit.

The phone calls Extreme team member Todd Stevens used to make weeks before a project he is now forced to make just days before construction begins.

"We used to get product and supplies a lot earlier, six or seven weeks out," he explained. "Now, it's coming down to the last week that we're trying to find supplies."

A recession story is hitting one of the biggest shows on television.

"I can't sleep at night getting this thing put together right," said Gary Bayless, with Bayless Custom Homes.

In his office turned Extreme headquarters Bayless and Stevens work to complete a build list with limited suppliers.

"A lot of the businesses just folded up and closed their doors," said Bayless.

Fewer businesses to handle the load of donations ups the pressure, but with plenty of builds under his belt, Stevens says the American people have yet to back down.

"The genuineness of the show, people always wanting to give...I think that the true American spirit finally comes through," he said.

For the upcoming East Texas build, the majority of construction materials has been donated but there are still many items crews are in desperate need of.

Drywall, electrical wiring and about a dozen RV's for the crews to stay in on site are the biggest needs right now. Click here for a complete list of their urgent needs.

And, if you're worried about the crews living in your RV rest assured, they will have it back to you in just one week.
