LONGVIEW, TX (KLTV) - A nearly 4-year-old East Texas murder case may be solved. Last night, police arrested Carlos Stiff, 22, and Lasinda Crockett, 39, in south Longview.

The two are believed to have beaten and stabbed Alton Hicks, 75, at his home in August of 2006. Hicks, who was blind, was well known around Longview. Friends say, even to this day, it's hard to believe someone would kill him.

"[It was a] big shock, big shock," said Paula Hardwick. "Couldn't believe it. He was so sweet! I couldn't believe anybody would do that to him."

"[There is a] sense of a strong desire to solve a case like this - any murder case - but especially the case of a child or elderly person," said Kevin Brownlee, with Longview Police. "You feel a lot of pressure to solve that case and bring closure to that family and bring people to justice that are responsible."

Stiff and Crockett are both being held in the Gregg County Jail, charged with Capital Murder. Robbery is suspected as a motive in the killing.
