Entertainer Marvin Hamlisch coming to East Texas

LONGVIEW, TX - Marvin Hamlisch, winner of virtually every major entertainment award that exists, including four Grammy Awards, three Oscars, three Emmys, a Tony, three Golden Globe awards and the Pulitzer Prize, will perform in concert at 7:30 p.m. Friday, March 26, at LeTourneau University's S. E. Belcher Jr. Chapel and Performance Center, 2100 S. Mobberly Ave.  

Tickets are $65 for first orchestra Level A seating, $59 for second orchestra Level B seating, $53 for lower balcony Level C seating and $47 for upper balcony Level D seating. They are available online at www.BelcherCenter.com or at the university's box office from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday. Valet parking for the show is available for $10 per vehicle.

Hamlisch's life in music is notable for its great versatility as well as substance. He is the composer of more than 40 motion picture scores, including his Oscar-winning score and song for "The Way We Were" and his adaptation of Scott Joplin's music for "The Sting," for which he received his third Oscar. His prolific output of scores for films include composition and/or musical adaptations for "Sophie's Choice," "Ordinary People," "The Swimmer," "Three Men and a Baby," "Ice Castles," "Take the Money and Run," "Bananas" and "Save the Tiger."

Hamlisch's latest feature film scoring effort was for "The Informant," starring Matt Damon, directed by Steven Soderbergh, released in 2009.

Hamlisch holds the position of the principal pops conductor for the National Symphony Orchestra, Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra, Milwaukee Symphony Orchestra, Seattle Symphony and San Diego Symphony.

A pre-performance buffet dinner by Bon Appétit will be available for an additional $15 per person. The catered dinner will be served from 5:30 to 7 p.m. in the third floor meeting room of the Memorial Student Center at the LETU main campus.  The menu for the Marvin Hamlisch performance includes dijon mustard roasted pork loins, smoked ham, roasted garlic whipped potatoes, steamed green beans, assorted rolls, iced tea, coffee, water and a pastry chef's specialty dessert. Tickets are available through the Belcher Center box office and online. Seating is limited.
