Powder blankets East Texas streets, cars sliding on ice

TYLER, TX (KLTV) - Across East Texas, the roads are blanketed with snow, and that's creating some potentially dangerous problems.

The Texas Department of Transportation is spreading a gravel mixture on slick roads throughout East Texas, and they'll be out all night. But, they haven't reached every road, and earlier tonight,  one driver took a slide for the worst.

Just after 7p.m. The Texas Department of Public Safety responded to a single-vehicle wreck on highway 271 near County Road 3124 in Smith County.

There were no injuries. Absolute Towing and Recovery was called out to the scene to help pull the truck out of ditch. The driver was headed south on 271 toward Tyler, when she apparently slide on some black ice, lost control, and got stuck.

It's the start of a long night for tow truck driver O.C. Baker.

"Drive real slow. If you don't need to be out - don't go out," said Baker.

The tops of these cars on the downtown square here in Tyler, and covered with snow, that's what's blanketing the roads.

The snow is fun to play in, but not to drive in.

Just as a pre-caution, starting at midnight tonight, Absolute Towing will be assisting the Tyler Police Department all morning in case there are any accidents.
