ETMC Nurse Indicted For Injuring A Child

A nurse working at East Texas Medical Center in Tyler has been indicted on two charges of injury to a child.

Authorities have been investigating Amanda Julian (21) of Smith County since January. Authorities say that's when her 3 year old stepdaughter showed up at a local hospital with head injuries. At the time, Julian claimed the toddler fell in the bathroom, but authorities grew suspicious of the licensed vocational nurse and continued their probe.

"We have assigned more than one officer to work this case, says Smith County Sheriff J.B. Smith. "We have a lieutenant in our criminal investigation division that's deeply involved in it and taking it before the grand jury, which is what we normally do in these types of cases."

An ETMC spokesperson says Julian has been on paid leave since the allegations surfaced back in January. The spokesperson added that Julian has a good employment record and a background check completed at the time of her hire came back clean.

Julian now faces two, third degree felony charges. If convicted, she could face two years probation or two to ten years in prison.
