(AUSTIN, TX)—Today, Texas Round-Up health and fitness initiative announces its annual search for fit Texans, fit kids and fit families.  The organization is looking to recognize ‘Fit Texans' from all regions of the State who have overcome health and weight challenges through lifestyle changes such as diet and exercise. Winners will be VIP guests and spokespeople at the 7th annual Texas Round-Up 10K-5K-Family Mile race and fitness festival, presented by Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Texas, to be held on April 24, 2010 in Austin.

According to the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, an estimated 300,000 deaths per year may be attributed to obesity. "There are thousands of Texans who are committed to changing their lives and improving their health," says Meredith Garcia, Texas Round-Up executive director. "We want to hear from each of you. We want to share your story, reward you for your hard work, and give you an opportunity to inspire others."

The ‘Fit Texan' winners will receive a VIP weekend for two to attend the 7th annual Texas Round-Up including hotel accommodations, VIP party invitations, race registrations for the 10K, 5K or Family Mile, passes to the VIP tent on race day and official Texas Round-Up gear. All adults, families and children who have made healthy improvements are invited to enter the contest. Deadline for entry is March 5, 2010. Texas Round-Up is seeking a ‘Fit' winner from Central Texas, East Texas, North Texas, South Texas and West Texas. Complete details about the contest rules and offerings are listed at www.texasroundup.org.

On Saturday, April 24th, the Texas Round-Up and Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Texas will host the 7th annual Texas Round-Up 10K-5K-Family Mile.  This event includes 10K and 5K competitive races, as well as a Family Mile course for children and adults not quite ready for a 5K.  Before, during, and after the race, participants and families can enjoy the fitness festival and the FitKids FunZone, which encourage families to make fitness and nutrition a priority in their lives through interactive demonstrations and activities for children, as well as giveaways and healthy program information for adults.
