Students collect donations for animal shelter

HENDERSON, TX (KLTV) - An East Texas animal shelter gets a huge donation of supplies thanks to a generous group of students.

Over two weeks, Northside Intermediate Student Council brought in nearly 2,000 items for the Henderson Animal Shelter in Rusk County.

From dog food to travel cages the students were able to get East Texans to bring it all in. The students say folks helping the animals is what it's all about.

"It doesn't have to be the most expensive and it doesn't have to be the cheapest," said Caroline rains, a student. "It can just be whatever you can afford. Dawn dish washing liquid cost $1, paper towels cost $.50, and they could really use it."

"It would be cool if a lot of East Texans could bring even more than 5,000 items to an animal shelter every week," said Taylin Antoick, the student council president.
