Berkley named to animal advisory board

Released by Smith County:

SMITH COUNTY, TX - Rebecca Berkley, Public Relations Manager for ETMC Regional Healthcare System, was named as the 9th board member of the Smith County Animal Control Advisory board today, during a regular meeting of the Commissioners Court.

"I will enjoy serving on this committee to help find a solution to the problem of so many stray dogs in East Texas, which is usually the result of people not spaying or neutering their dogs," Ms. Berkley said.

On January 27, 2010, the Smith County Commissioners Court approved the formation of an Animal Advisory Committee that will investigate animal control, shelter, adoption, and euthanasia options for hundreds of stray dogs in the County.

Ms. Berkley is a former reporter who covered animal control issues for years and is the owner of a German Shepherd rescue dog named Dax.
