TYLER, TX (KLTV) - Tough economic times sometimes call for unusual measures to survive, and a Tyler youth has come up with the only way he knew how to help his family, being a street musician.

The classic strains of Mozart, and even Irish jigs can be heard in the parking lot of Barnes and Noble in Tyler on any given Sunday from a young man and a violin , with a mission. 17 year old D.J.

Hansen does it for a simple reason, to help his financially struggling family make ends meet.

"This isn't for fame, its real life, now its for groceries, gas, and the electricity bill, my dad pays for rent he pays rest of electricity but the main thing is me and my sister pay for the small stuff, if I'm not doing good enough then I can do better".

Sometimes it's a few dollars , sometimes hundreds, but its all appreciated.

"Pretty proud of him , it takes a lot for a 17 year old to get out and become a street musician" says his father , Doug Hansen.

"The Hansen way is not to look back, but to keep moving forward, music will always keep you sane, two music will never let you down, there actually is light at the end of the tunnel" says D.J.

Hansen is a Robert-E-Lee student and hopes to go on to college , he says to get a good education and a chance at a good job.
