A weekend of celebration concluded Sunday for Texas College. A convocation finished the school's Founders' Day program Sunday afternoon.
Students and alumni were treated to a musical program, and President Dr. Billy Hawkins welcomed guests to Texas College. Nationally syndicated radio show host, Tom Joyner, was the speaker for the convocation.
However, he did a lot more than that.
Joyner also delivered a check for $200,000 to Texas College from his foundation. Joyner said it's vital to remember the historically black colleges and universities.
"With the President and the Supreme Court's attack on affirmative action, H.B.C.U.'s are important now more than ever before. We're here to try to help them survive, keep their doors open for students and have an educational experience."
Sunday was also a celebration for Texas College's reinstatement into the United Negro College Fund.
