City allows wavers at Liberty Tax Services...for now

TYLER, TX (KLTV) - An East Texas business can once again put out their patriotic display. Liberty Tax Services was ordered to get rid of people they had outside, dressed as the Statue of Liberty, holding signs, and waving to traffic. City officials said the wavers violated the sign ordinance.

After our story aired, Liberty reached an agreement with the city to reinstate the wavers, just without the signs.

"They agreed that we could have the wavers back out, [but] no signs through the end of tax season which will be April 15th," said Maureen Parkhill, with Liberty Tax Service in Tyler. "At that point, they will reevaluate their sign ordinance and we are going to be in discussion with them about a three dimensional sign being a person in a costume...We're hoping that we can resolve this with the city in a peaceful manner where everybody wins."

Liberty Tax says the city did make them take down their balloons, but they are pleased they can still employ those wavers.
