UIL realignment makes big changes in East Texas

EAST TEXAS (KLTV) - It was an early morning for high school coaches across the state. It was realignment day, as the U.I.L. sent some school's to new districts, or even new classes. Several school's are moving down. Here is a list of area schools that will play in different classes next year.

John Tyler (5A down to 4A)
Lindale (4A down to 3A)
Henderson (4A down to 3A)
Mineola (3A down to 2A)
Tatum (3A down to 2A)
Garrison (2A down to 1A)

John Tyler moves down from 4A for the first time ever. The Lions are grouped with Hallsville, Jacksonville, Kilgore, Pine Tree, Marshall, Nacogdoches and Whitehouse. Several of those school's used to share a district with Longview. The Lobos have moved back up to 5A. They replace John Tyler in district 11-5A.

Outside of J.T. and Longview, the biggest story of the day came in District 16-3A. Check out this group of teams:

So let's recap. Carthage and Gilmer are defending state champions. Pittsburg was a state semifinalist and Henderson is moving down from 4A. What a brutal district. Gilmer Head Coach Jeff Traylor wasn't too excited about. He says the Buckeyes will have their hands full next season.

What do you think about the changes? In what way do you agree or disagree with the U.I.L.'s decision? Leave us your thoughts in the comments section below.
