LIVINGSTON, TX (KLTV) - An attempted prison escape was foiled last night, moments after five inmates attempted to flee from the Texas Department of Criminal Justice Polunsky Unit in Livingston, Texas.

Four of the inmates were serving life sentences, two for capital murder.

According to the TDCJ, at approximately 9:00 p.m. last night, Albin Zelaya-Zelaya, 29, Michael Dueitt, 27, Donald Gower, 41, Terry McDonald, 29, and Juan Quintaro, 36, attempted to escape from their unit by jumping an interior fence of the prison, then charging and attempting to scale the perimeter fence. The inmates were returning to their housing area from the unit gym where they had attended a church service.

Guards began firing at the inmates and stopped the escape attempt. All five inmates were apprehended inside the perimeter.

Quintero and Gowen suffered multiple lacerations. They have since been treated for their injuries and are back in their units. Dueitt, Zelaya-Zelaya, and McDonald suffered gun shot wounds and were taken to area hospitals for non-life threatening injuries.

All five inmates could face felony attempted escape charges.
