4 arrive home after Haiti mission trip

LONGVIEW, TX (KLTV) - Four East Texans are home in Longview after a four-day mission trip to Haiti.

Through an organization called Grace Flight, four members of New Heights Church in Longview left Sunday on a private flight to Haiti.

The group says the devastation was worse than they could have imagined, but said the thing that struck them most was just how much the people of Haiti were glad to have people there to help.

"It makes you feel good that people care," said James Pepper, an elder. "We talked to a lady from Finland who came over there by herself just to help."

"Myself as a pastor, my heart broke because they didn't even have anyone at the morgue to comfort the families and give grief counseling when they found out that their loved one passed away," said Tommy Jackson, pastor. "And, we saw many people pass away right in front of our eyes."

Jackson says his church is planning another trip to Haiti soon, and if you'd like to help out, or go with them, you can contact New Heights Church in Longview.
