VAN ZANDT COUNTY, TX (KLTV) - Residents in the tornado-ravaged part of Van Zandt County are facing a long road to recovery. The area most impacted was in between the Sand Flat and Silverlake communities, along Farm-to-Market Road 1255.

Now, three brothers are facing a long uphill battle, a week after an EF-2 tornado touched-down, forever changed the lives of the Dickerson brothers who were born and raised in the area.

"This is home," said Jerral D. Dickerson. "It's hard to see it in this shape. Lot of work."

Jerral Dickerson and his family's mobile home is a total loss. Next door, Doug and Ethel Dickerson's home has just a few walls left standing. And, their other brother, Kenneth's home did not survive the 120 mile-an-hour winds either.

"We had insurance but my brother-in-law didn't - Jerral didn't," said Ethel Dickerson.

"Scripture says [to] be strong and it will give you courage," said Jerral Dickerson. "I guess this is a test of strength of courage...maybe it's to draw us back to where we're supposed to be."

Jerral Dickerson says they all plan on rebuilding in the same spot and thankfully have places to stay.

"I can't describe how overwhelming it's been and I can't describe how much gratitude I feel towards people in our community," he said.

But, still more help is needed, especially monetary donations, as Jerral Dickerson's overwhelmed family has to start all over with nothing. But, there is a huge blessing here: the fact that everyone survived the horrific storm.

"We're all going to be OK," said Ethel. "We're still alive and we all get another chance."

Jerral Dickerson says his family is grateful they have received clothes but they do need help financially.
