County donates unclaimed golf clubs to Texas College

Released by Smith County:

Smith County Precinct 4 Commissioner JoAnn Hampton personally delivered seven sets of golf clubs and various golfing equipment including gloves, towels and bags, to the Texas College athletics department on Monday, January 25, 2010.

The golf equipment had been recovered by the Smith County Sheriffs Department, but never reclaimed. As part of the countywide clean-up effort, the clubs were identified by the clean-up committee as surplus. The Commissioners Court has charged the Clean Up Committee with the task of finding innovative ways to clean up County facilities and make the best use of unneeded or abandoned property. When Commissioner Hampton discovered that the golf clubs were in fair condition, she brought the equipment to Texas College to be used in their upcoming golf program.

"I am so glad to have the opportunity to provide Texas College with the tools they will need to begin their golf program. Golf is great athletic activity, but the program will also benefit those students who are enrolled in Texas College's business program, since so many important business decisions are made on the golf course," Commissioner Hampton said.

Texas College President Dr. Dwight J. Fennell was on site to receive the gift.

"I want to thank Commissioner Hampton for helping us to start this program. This gift will help make it affordable for any of our students to participate," Dr. Fennell said.
