LONGVIEW, TX - On January 25, 2010 at around 4:10 a.m., Longview Officers responded to a robbery that just occurred at the EZ Mart at 700 Gilmer Road.

The clerk told officers that a white female, wearing a brown hoodie and jeans, entered the store and asked for three cartons of cigarettes. When the clerk placed the cigarettes on the counter, the woman produced a can of mace from her pocket and pointed it at the clerk. The suspect then threatened the clerk with the mace and the clerk gave the suspect money from the cash register and the cigarettes. As the suspect fled the scene in a dark colored Honda, the clerk was able to note the license plate number.

At around 4:22 a.m., Sgt. Matt Seyer located the suspect vehicle traveling westbound in the 1100 block of East Marshall Avenue. The vehicle was stopped and the driver was identified as Whitney Leigh Ashby. Officers located the three cartons of stolen cigarettes and the stolen money from the EZ Mart. Officers also noted that Ashby was wearing the same clothing the clerk had described.

Ashby was arrested and found to be in possession of a small amount of marijuana. She was transported to the Gregg County Jail and charged with robbery (2nd degree felony) and possession of marijuana (class B misdemeanor).
