NACOGDOCHES, TX (KLTV) - During her campaign for Texas governor, Senator Kay Bailey Hutchison has repeatedly listed the high dropout rate in Texas schools as a problem she plans to fix if elected.

Friday, during a stop at Stephen F. Austin State University in Nacogdoches, she highlighted the school's academic programs, including a new, $13,000,000 nursing facility, as a great reason to get more students to seek higher education.

But she also spoke about her hopes for health care reform after this week's election in Massachusetts.

"We very much hope the Democrats will not push this health care through any further," said Hutchison. "We need to have reform of health care by lowering the cost by making access more affordable for people. So I hope they'll stop and start all over, work with Republicans and try to get something that everyone will think is a step forward."

Hutchison made national headlines earlier Friday during a stop in Houston, where she picked up an endorsement from former President George H.W. Bush.
