Church fires bring East Texans together for Sunday prayer rally

Released by Grace Community Church:

TYLER, TX - Recently, the church and community-at-large has been effected by a string of fires set by arsonists. In addition to the loss of Tyland Baptist Church and Church of Christ Scientist in Tyler, the communities of Lindale and Athens have also experienced loss. Doug Clark, Senior Pastor at Grace Community Church, one of the local churches that experienced loss said, "but as Winston Churchill famously said, 'this could be our finest hour.' The church will move on and prosper. The church is not a building. The people is the church."

As a response to the church fires, local religious, civic, and business leaders are hosting a Prayer Rally at Bergfeld Park. "As of this moment, Mayor Barbara Bass, KVNE, Travis White, pastor at Colonial Hill Baptist Church, Damien Williams, pastor of New Generation Baptist Church, Brandon Davis, pastor of Living Acts Church, and many pastors from the Tyler area have committed to coming to publicly pray for the encouragement and support of the church. We will also be praying for the repentance of the arsonist(s). Our hope is that while we do forgive them, that they come to know why we forgive" said, David George Montalvo, an event organizer.

The event will be hosted at Bergfeld Park, Sunday January 24, 1:00pm. The rally is free and open to the public. For more information, contact David George Montalvo, 903.253.4202, or
