VAN ZANDT COUNTY, TX (KLTV) - Some of the damage in Van Zandt County led to a hunt for what was thought to be an escaped tiger.

Van Zandt County sheriff's officials say the tiger was being kept in a shed near County Roads 1255 and 1709. That shed was damaged.

The tiger's owner says he moved the cat a few days ago, but a neighbor came by, saw the empty shed, and feared the worst.

"We were not aware of the tiger," said Chuck Allen, the Van Zandt County Emergency Management Coordinator. "We are now. We're checking with the owner to be sure they have the proper certification from the Department of Agriculture to have that tiger in captivity."

The tiger is a full grown female, believed to be over 400 pounds, but she was never out of her cage during the storms. The owner could face charges is they do not have a permit for the tiger.
