Homes in Waskom hit by possible tornado

HARRISON COUNTY, TX (KSLA) – One woman said she never heard the tornado coming. One minute she was inside her home, the next she saw the sky and was covered in dirt. Fortunately, she emerged unscathed from the destruction.

KLTV's sister station, KSLA News 12, is in Waskom, and says there is lots of damage in the small East Texas town. Along Highway 80 their reporter said he saw numerous pine trees snapped in half along with other trees simply uprooted. There were also numerous power lines down inside the city.

Meanwhile the Harrison County Sheriff's Office has called the Shreveport Police Department to assist in rescue efforts after the possible tornado moved through the county.

Shreveport Fire Chief Brian Crawford said the city is sending three search dogs and six handlers to the Waskom area. Reports from the sheriff's department there indicate several homes and businesses in Waskom were hit by what witnesses said was a tornado. The chief says the K9's going to Waskom are trained to find people inside trapped structures.
