The Lions Roar: JT Hoops back on the rise

TYLER, TEXAS (KLTV) - For John Tyler basketball, this year has been all about the "F-word"

"Oh yeah, we are having fun this year," said senior Kerrion Lester.

"FUN" hasnt always been around JT Hoops, first year head coach Tony Pinson has changed all that.

"He has brought in a lot of discipline and defense," said Lester, "we focus a lot more that we ever did last year."

"Defense he brings, but it is also playing harder, is it not all defense, it is playing harder and competing more than we ever have before," said senior Jacques Rowe.

With good times in the arsenal and a stifling defense to boot, JT is having plenty of fun and collecting plenty of wins, to the tune of a 16-3 record.

"We have a confidence about us, we can beat anyone," said Chris Hackett, "we just have a confidence that we are not going to take anyone lightly."

"We expect to go much farther than the first round, we expect to win district, but we have to keep working," said Ashton Eatmon.

They may be the most overlooked team in East Texas, if not the state, but not to worry, that's right where they want to be.

"Now that there is a greater expectation for us," said Darien Jones, "we have to come out with those expectations and play on that or above that level."

"Last year we would come out and hope to compete," said Lester, "but now we know that we are going to come out and win."

And there is nothing scarier than a team that knows they are going to win, and will have fun doing it.

The Lions are 1-0 in district play, and sit in the top 35 in the state rankings.
