TYLER, TX (KLTV) - You get braces installed and it could be several years spent with a mouth full of metal. They can turn the most crooked smile into a Colgate one, it just takes time. Now, a relatively new procedure promises to straighten your smile in only six months.

It was Jennifer Hook's first checkup in braces, a decision made when an engagement ring landed on her finger.

"I'm getting married, and I think that's something, my smile [and] my teeth, that I've always been self conscious about," said Hook.

Her wedding is just months away, but by that time her braces will be long gone, courtesy of the Six Month Smile System.

"It fit perfectly within my wedding timeline to have it off in time to get my bridal portraits," she said. "So it just seemed like the stars aligned."

Soon her teeth will follow, giving her a perfect smile on both sides, in around half the time of average tooth straightening.

"There's not really a catch," said Dr. Tad Morgan. "It's less than regular ortho. We just leave the bite where it was when it started.

Dr. Morgan says Six Month Smile's decreased brace time comes from shaving fractions of millimeters off teeth, allowing them to turn freely faster.

"We concentrate more on the cosmetics and straightening the front teeth in the smile," he explained.

A special memory wire aligns the smile as regular braces do, but far less visibly in tooth colored brackets.

"This actually has more control of the teeth than Invisalign, and plus, we get done in a much shorter amount of time," said Morgan.

It is an end result Hook is counting on for the big day.

"Last night, I was watching the Bachelor and all those girls are so pretty and have such beautiful big smiles and I'm thinking, 'That's gonna be me in six months,'" said Hook. "[I will have] just a very pretty smile walking down the aisle being able to say I do and having a big smile and it will be pretty and white and straight and shiny."

Perfect for those wedding photos.

Dr. Morgan says the Six Month Smile System lasts, on average, five to nine months.

If corrective straightening takes any longer, they recommend traditional braces. And, if you're wondering if they condense two years of brace pain to six months, both patient and doctor say it is about the same.
