Palestine Divided: Peterson or Cowboys?

By Coleman Swierc - bio | email

Palestine, Texas (KLTV) - Football fans in Palestine will have a tough decision come this weekend.

At noon on Sunday, the one man wrecking ball and all-pro running back, Palestine native Adrian Peterson, will face America's team...the Cowboys, leaving the citizens of Palestine, a tough choice to root for.

"Dallas has had it before," said Frank Hudgins, a Palestine native, "my daughter went to school with him, so I am rooting for Adrian."

"I hope the Cowboys go all the way, but I am leaning to rooting for Adrian, because I know him and his family," said Keith Bailey.

"He is a good running back, and Favre is better than Romo, so I think Adrian and the Vikings will win," said Palestine native Kevin Foster."

For some, the luster of watching Peterson run, does not mean residents will root for him.

"I am a die-hard Cowboys fan, and I love Adrian because he is from Palestine, but I have to go for the Cowboys, if they weren't in, then I would go for Adrian," said Cowboys superfan and Palestine resident Roy Sharpley.

"I hope he has a good game," said Palestine High School senior Kyle Cargill, "but I want Dallas to win."

"He alone cannot win the game," said Hunter Lawrence, "I think he will have a good game, but Dallas will win."

So wether you root for the home town hero, or the star clad Cowboys, one thing is certain, in this game, everyone will have a rooting interest.

"This is a no lose situation," said Chuck Corb, who coached Peterson in high school, "if Adrian does well then good for Palestine, if the Cowboys do well, then it is good for Texas."

The John Tyler Lions always seem to look sharp in their uniforms. But thanks to East Texas lawyer Keith Miller, the Lions will look better and play safer. Helmets that advertise lowering the impact of hits, and possibly reduce the amount of concussions, come with a hefty price-tag. Miller's donation of 7,500 dollars, will go to help the lions cover that cost. "Keith Miller's been a big sponsor of John Tyler High School football program for years now.  I know it's...More >>

The last time we talked about the Kilgore Bulldogs, quarterback Buddy Jackson and wide receiver Jonathan Shepherd were apart of the 800-meter relay team that won gold at the 2017 state track meet. But today they are back in the pads, and looking to turn their speed into touchdowns.  Competing in District 9-4A, Kilgore has always had a strong run game that helped them become the 2016 District Champs.
