Your donations pouring in for good Samaritan

SMITH COUNTY, TX (KLTV) - Your phone calls and emails are still pouring in, with many of you wanting to help the man who lost everything by trying to save someone else.

Last Friday, Ozlle Jett's home burned to the ground in a matter of minutes. He was cooking but ran out to check on someone who flipped their truck in a ditch. Firefighters say the skillet on his stove sparked, instantly catching his trailer on fire, destroying everything. Click here to learn more about what happened.

Now, bags of clothes fill Jett's truck, all donated by East Texans who saw his story, wanting to help.

"They've been real nice to me," said Jett. "All of them have."

His companion, "Trouble" is getting some presents, too, after the frightening ordeal.

"She came around me and I think she was crying," said Jett.

Pastor Larry Johnigan plans on organizing donations through his congregation, Living the Word Ministry International.

"A senior person, I understand, he's living alone and just taking the chance to help somebody and then to see him lose everything, it just touched us," said Johnigan.

"Friends, families, people helping me, that really builds my spirit up, keeps my spirit up," said Jett.

Laura Dress and her son Drake watched our story and immediately began praying for Jett.

"He looked so broken, and just that little tear that ran down his cheek, and [I] just was sad that he was trying to help somebody and his house burnt," said Laura. "It was terrible."

Ever since, Drake has been wondering what they can give.

"I'm thinking a couch," said Drake. "Maybe shake his hand."

Jett says he truly appreciates your prayers and outpouring of support.

"I want to thank everybody that what they done did for me so far," said Jett. "I can't think of everyone's name so I'm just going to say everyone thank y'all."

Pastor Johnigan is calling more to do the same.

"It's not about us. We're here to help somebody else and the more that God blesses us the more that we ought to bless someone else."

Again, Jett is in need of everything: clothes, money, a collar and food for his dog. You can send donations to County Road 486 Box 6060, Tyler, Texas 75706. Or, you can reach Jett directly by calling 903-593-2874.
