TYLER, TX (KLTV) - While the frigid weather kept most of us inside, it played havoc with water pipes at East Texas homes, and kept hardware stores packed. Some had been without water for as long as 3 days.
"I worked all day on pipes that were freezing," says Tyler homeowner Jim Blankenship.
Jamming the plumbing isle at the Tyler Lowes, the mad rush was on to find the right part, to get their water running again.
"There's a lot more things that's enjoyable doing than crawling around in icy water to fix a leak," says shopper Eddie Frizell.
Many had never had to fix pipes that had been broken from freezing.
"I have never seen anything like this, never seen anything like this in my life," says Darryl Choice.
The non-stop flood of customers forced Lowes to open reserve stock to keep up with demand.
"Just the coldness there's really aint a lot you can do , you can wrap your pipes but, there going to freeze" Frizell says.
And even then some parts were already gone. Many hope this is the first , and last, time they'll have to repair their own plumbing.
