TYLER, TX (KLTV) - She survived the dust bowl in Oklahoma, more than 40 years as a bank teller, and now 100 years of birthdays. Mildred Howard celebrated her special birthday Thursday.
Friends and family surprised the native Kansan with a cake and gifts at Azalea Trails in Tyler. The 100-year-old received her own personal park bench to lounge on outside her apartment.
"Never had any fame or fortune but I enjoy life and enjoyed everything that went on," said Howard. "[I] had a nice good family, loving. Lived through the dust bowl [and] depression."
Howard's secret to longevity is learning to be content and roll with the punches life hands you.
