SHREVEPORT, LA (KSLA) – Chesapeake Operating, Inc. has released the name of the worker killed Wednesday during a natural gas explosion at Barksdale Air Force Base.

The company identified the man as 27-year-old Jared Maus of Shongaloo, LA. Maus had worked for Chesapeake for two years.

A release from Chesapeake said the accident happened about 5:30 p.m. Wednesday evening at the company's M&M North facility, located on the southeast side of the base property in an area known as the East Reservation.

The release also said Maus was at the site performing equipment maintenance, but the company will have to investigate the exact cause of the blast. Chesapeake said there is no danger to people or the environment located near the facility.

Chesapeake describes the site as a gas processing facility for a shallow gas area called Sligo Field, which is not related to the Haynesville Shale.
