UPDATE 01-05-10 05:55PM: The body of the missing jail guard from East Texas has been found. His vehicle has been pulled from the Sulphur River in Linden.
LINDEN, TX (KSLA) – The search for an East Texas prison guard who never made it to work Monday continues in the cold waters of the Sulphur River between Bowie and Cass Counties.
Jacob Turner, 32, never arrived for his morning shift at the Telford Prison. Authorities eventually began searching for Turner and his truck along Highway 8. Texas Wildlife and Fisheries agents began dragging the river after search crews noticed a damaged guardrail on the R.M. Hubbard Bridge.
"What has lead us to think he might have [gone into the river] is, this is the road he takes everyday," said Texas Department of Public Safety Spokesperson Sylvia Jennings. "Road conditions yesterday were icy. We've looked up and down Highway 8 [and found] nothing."
Dive teams with the Texas DPS are suppose to go into the water early Tuesday afternoon. Wildlife and Fisheries agents say before they suspended Monday night's search, they found something in the water while dragging the river. They didn't speculate on what type of object they might have found.
Family and friends are also anxious, awaiting answers from authorities on any news about Turner.
