LONGVIEW, TX (KLTV) - The Longview Police Department receives their "lucky seven" to beef up security in the city. Wednesday, seven new police officers were sworn in at a standing room only ceremony. For some of the men, becoming a police officer has been a life long dream.

"[It is the] pinnacle of accomplishment," said Kerry Higginbotham, a new police officer. "Finally, got the Marine Core down, got an honorable discharge there and starting a new chapter. We made it this far and so we'll be able to pull the rest of the way."

"It's important to me," said Dennis Phillips, a new police officer. "It's something I can be proud of. It's something where I feel like I will be able to help people."

Four of the new officers are Marines and one was in the Navy. They will officially hit the Longview streets in May.
