Murder suspect captured by East Texas law enforcement

WOOD COUNTY, TX - On December 22, 2009, the Wood County Sheriff's Office was contacted by Texas Ranger John Vance with the Department of Public Safety in reference to an Angelina County murder suspect residing in Wood County. Based off of information received from the Angelina County Sheriff's Office through the Texas Rangers service, the suspect, Thomas Hugh Fielder Jr. of Hawkins, was in hiding at an unknown residence in Yantis.

On December 23, 2009, the Angelina County Sheriff's Office received information that the suspect would arrive at a residence in Quitman that same day. The Wood County Sheriff's Office and the Quitman Police Department assisted the Angelina County Sheriff's Office by executing a surveillance operation on the suspected residence in Quitman. Upon the arrival of the Angelina County detectives and the Texas Ranger service, the three agencies executed a joint operation which led to the arrest of the suspect in the late hours of December 23, 2009.

Wood County Sheriff Bill Wansley is pleased with the opportunity to ensure the safety of Wood County citizen's along with assisting the Angelina County sheriff with the arrest of their murder suspect and the seizure of potential evidence which may benefit their investigation.
