Released by Nacogdoches County Sheriff Thomas Kerss:

NACOGDOCHES COUNTY, TX - Three detention officers at the Nacogdoches County Jail were assaulted on Christmas evening by an inmate during an attempted escape. Inmate Lesedric McClain (B/M, 21 yoa) used a ball point pen to stab a jailer in the forehead in an attempt to flee his cell area. A portion of the pen broke off and lodged in the jailers brow just above the right eye. The inmate then fought with two additional detention officers as they attempted to subdue the inmate. The inmate was secured after a brief struggle and was placed into a violence cell. Although the inmate had verbally indicated his intent to escape during the assault, at no time was he close to exiting the confines of the jail. The jailer that was stabbed was transported to Memorial Hospital where he was treated for his injuries and later released. He has not returned to work at this time.
