TYLER, TX (KTLV) -- A White Christmas Likely for parts of East Texas
Well, I have been hinting for the past week that there could be a few snow flurries on Christmas Eve and now it looks like some areas of East Texas could see more than just flurries. A very strong upper level low pressure system is moving much farther south than anticipated and this will bring a chance of snow to much of East Texas. Winter weather advisories are in effect for areas of East Texas along and north of I-20 where up to an inch of snow could accumulate. Across our northwestern counties, from Sulphur Springs to Terrell and points north, 2 to 4 inches may accumulate. Snow showers this afternoon will be accompanied with very gusty winds reducing visibilities at times to less than ¼ of a mile. Travel towards the Metroplex will become very hazardous later this afternoon and is not recommended.
For areas south of I-20, a few flurries and snow showers can be expected however, very little in the way of accumulation is expected. For some, Santa will bring a winter surprise for Christmas 2009.
